As the economy is changing for the worse, workers are scrambling of new career options. The healthcare industry have been predicting that the availability of jobs for nurses was going to change to a very needy situation. Hospitals and nursing homes are finding that as workers leave nursing positions, it is increasing harder to fill those positions with new, qualified nurses. There is no doubt that there is a nursing shortage. This nursing shortage will, eventually result in better conditions and hours. But, for now, the stress of the nursing shortage makes some very qualified personal leave for better work environment and hours. • It is possible that nearly 40% of our nursing workforce will end up retiring in the next 10 years. This leaves an ever growing opportunity for new workers seeking to start their career in nursing, as well as people looking to change careers. Nursing is a demanding profession and becoming a RN is not easy, but a very real opportunity for a career does exist. • The future of the nursing profession is bright. The current shortage allows a graduating nurse to write his or her own ticket in the field of nursing – regardless of the medical sector. The shortage of nurses and the attention on the shortage continues to grow in the public eye.
